What BOTOX® Cosmetic Can Be Used for

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a versatile cosmetic treatment that can be to help get rid of many different wrinkles, including:

How BOTOX® Cosmetic Works

Over a lifetime full of ups and downs, we get a lot of practice making a wide range of expressions, such as smiling, laughing, frowning, or scowling. Whatever our muscles practice a lot, they get conditioned. When this happens with our facial muscles, they stay contracted. They’re performing their part of an expression that you’ve made thousands of times in your life, but without the rest of the expression, crow’s feet are just wrinkles.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an injection that can be used to make these overzealous muscles relax, smoothing the wrinkle. The active ingredient is a very dilute concentration of botulinum toxin. Although it uses a toxin, BOTOX® Cosmetic is very safe. In a recent study, involving more than 20,000 cosmetic procedures, BOTOX® Cosmetic was found to be the safest, with no serious side effects, and only minor side effects (such as redness at the injection site) in about 1 in 3,000 procedures.

The muscle relaxing properties of BOTOX® also make it ideal to help treat TMJ and TMJ-related headaches. When habitually tight muscles are causing regular jaw pain or triggering headaches—even migraines—BOTOX® injections can be used to relax the muscles to help relieve the pain.
